The use of VR in educational settings can be highly motivating for students as it provides high quality visual effects through realistic simulations that can increase engagement. Deciding to use VR technology in educational settings though, should take into account both positive and restrictive attributions before being utilized (Mulders et al. 2020). “Immersive learning design involves considering a variety of factors, such as the learning objectives, the target audience, the appropriate technology to use, and the most effective way to present the content. It also involves incorporating interactive elements and assessment mechanisms to ensure that learners are learning effectively and to track their progress” Below is a best practices checklist for the design of immersive learning:
Choose appropriate technology based on learning objectives (AR, VR)
Clearly defined learning objectives
Include interactive elements to enhance learner engagement
Provide clear instructions for learners on how to interact and navigate their immersive experience
Include realistic simulations to allow learners to make real-world connections
Collaboration among learners
Assessments of student learning
Evaluate the effectiveness of the immersive experience as it relates to the learning
